Cecilia Colacrai  (Argentina, 1979)

Dancer, choreographer and dance teacher.

Since 1996 she has been interested in researching different aspects of contemporary dance, improvisation, composition, choreography and other disciplines connected to movement and performing arts.

In 1996 she graduated as a classical dance teacher from Escuela Provincial de Danzas Nigelia Soria, Rosario (Argentina) and continued her studies at Instituto Superior de danzas Isabel Taboga to become a contemporary dance teacher (1997 - 2000). At the same time, she was working with different companies as a maker and performer and was teaching contemporary dance in different venues of the city.

In 2002 she moved to Barcelona where she continued her professional education with teachers such as Thomas Hauert, Alexis Eupierre, María Muñoz, Pep Ramis, David Zambrano, Gustavo Lesgart, Fabiana Caprioti, Lisa Nelson, Jeremy Nelson, João Fiadeiro, Kirstie Simson, Àngels Margarit, Lipi Hernández, Mónica Extremiana, Lucas Condró, among others.

Currently and since 2012 she has been a member of the Big Bouncers Collective (together with Mireia de Querol and Anna Rubirola) with which she created pieces: Big Bounce (FAD Sebastiá Gasch award Applause for emerging artists 2015), Doppelgänger (a performance created for the “Tom Carr. Echoes of Carles Buïgas” exhibition); they directed I see a spider on the wall, a performance for the Pryzmat company (Poland); they investigated and created site specific works in different non-conventional spaces (MACBA, Festival Sismograf de Olot, Cerdanyola Museum, La Pedrera, among others); O.V.N.I(performance nominated for the Performing Arts Critics Awards 2018), performance Acto Reflejo created in collaboration with students of the IES Moisès Broggi secondary school within the frame of the EN RESiDENCIA 2018 project; their first piece for children Jungla was created in 2018 (supported by Més Petit de tots Festival and Mercat de les Flors), following which they produced a dance film version of the performance titled Un día en la Jungla directed by Laura Rubirola in 2020. Si estuviéramos solas en el Universo, sería una gran pérdida de espacio, is their last creation co-produced by Mercat de les Flors and presented in April 2019 within the frame of Big Bouncers Constellation. Currently, they are in the process of creating a new performance PLATA.
Since the beginning, the collective has been combining creation with pedagogy, teaching composition and creation and offering workshops for families.

She is currently also a member of the Group La Bolsa (with Iris Heitzinger, Anna Rubirola, Mireia de Querol, Natalia Jimenez, Federica Porello and Xavi Moreno), with which they created The Measure of Disorder, directed by Thomas Hauert, premiered at the Grec Festival, Barcelona, in 2015 and performed at the Charleroi Danses Biennial, Belgium. In 2021 they premiered their second piece, Errant Portraits, in close collaboration with Mal Pelo company and supported by Mercat de les Flors.

Since 2018 she has been collaborating with Joan Català in his project 5.100 m/s, premiered in 2020-2021. She was nominated as the best female dancer at the Performing Arts Critics Awards 2021.

As an independent artist, she collaborated with other creators: since 2018 with João Lima in pieces Azul como uma laranja and Morder la lenguaamong other performance and pedagogical projects; since 2019 with the Si Los Martes Fueran Viernes collective in their projects Enemigos Íntimos and Casa Nostra, among other projects; in 2022 she started collaborating with Lucas Condró; with dancer Martín Piliponsky and musician Matías Mahmud in an instant composition proposal Espacio latente; with Jorge Albuerne from 2006 till 2016, in dance-circus pieces Last, the dance and Gira (with which they won the “section decouverteaward at the Festival de Rue de Ramonville ’06); since 2009 she has been collaborating with the Finmatun Cultural Association, focusing on artistic activity as a tool for social work and transformation, currently she is part of the Festival Mit’s organised by this association.

As a solo artist, her first work Alone? was premiered in 2005 and performed at several festivals in Spain, France, Italy, Cuba, Mexico and Argentina. Her second solo work The incorruptible beauty of distance, December 2011, was created in collaboration with companies loscorderos and Nats Nus. In 2013 and 2014 she worked between Mexico, Argentina and Barcelona, teaching workshops and presenting her work at different venues and festivals. In 2022 she premiered her third solo creation, R.A.V.E. (Revolutionary Agglomeration for Voluntary Extermination), co-produced by Mercat de les Flors.

She collaborated with different directors and projects such as: Ciclo Katharsis – Presencia y Alteridaddirected by Martina Tosticarelli, Teatre Lliure (2021); Quim Bigas in La Llista (2021), Emmanuel Grivet (Francia) in his performances Le Cube (2009-2012) and Faces (2012); Toni Mira and the Finmatun Association in dance film projects in prisons (2009-2012); with the Nats Nus company in performance Brins and different events such as Transforma-t (inaugural performance of the Fira Tárrega 2013 Festival) and 100 años de La Pedrera (2012) among others; with the choreographer Sebastián García Ferro in Orquestra’t at Auditori de la Música de Barcelona (2012); with Montse Colomé at different events such as the “Premios Ciutat de Barcelona'' award ceremony (2012), Festes de la Mercé (2010), also, with her and with Santi San Pere in the L’enigma Project T6 by the Teatro Nacional de Catalunya (2010); with Grupo República Cênica (Brasil) in performance Post it (2009). She was a member of the Lapsus company directed by Alexis Eupierre in productions Vitrinas II and Vitrinas III (2007-2008); she worked with Gabriela Solini as a performer and assistant choreographer (2004-2005), they were awarded at the Madrid Choreographic Competition 2004 for their piece Háblame and performed at the Channel Sur Festival (Latino American Dance in New York) in 2005; she performed in The Wayne Brothers piece by Donna Uchizono (2000), among others.

As movement assistant she collaborated with: João Lima in O outro do outro (2010) and Cavalo do Cao (2021), Cia La Súbita in Silver Ballad (2021), Producciones Viridiana in Cuando no me llueve encima me llueve dentro directed by Jesús Arbués (2010), Enfila’t in Plecs (2010), among others.

She co-directed companies such as Lila Parra (2006–2008) and Viento Sur (with which she was twice awarded the 2nd prize at the Madrid Choreographic Competition – 2002 and 2003).

She has been teaching contemporary dance, improvisation and choreographic composition classes since 1997 in Argentina and since 2002 in Barcelona and other cities in Europe and Latin America.
Currently, she is a member of the teaching teams at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona, AREA, Moveo and in 2022 collaborates with Manufacture.
Since 2009 she has been part of the Sudansa project (dance in schools), and in 2017 and 2018 she was part of the Tot Dansa project (dance and creation project in secondary schools).

Between 2011 and 2017 she was part of the board of directors of the Asociación de Profesionales de la Danza de Cataluña which awarded her with the Honorary Award in 2020 as a recognition of her work during her years in the board of directors. She was an associated artist of La Caldera centre for creation and La Visiva space for movement..
